Montappone is an Italian town famous for its fine hats and this is our celebration of the kindness of so many people we've met on the road.

Sure was a fine day
When I packed my bag and made my way
Walking shoes and this old cap
To get myself a brand new hat
It wasn't so long 'till I came upon
A man with a cane that he leaned on
We broke some bread
He said, “Rest your head a while”
I told him of my fears that I would travel lonely
He laughed and said, “You'll never meet a stranger on the road to Montappone”

Climbed me a mountain
Against the wind, against the rain
Cursing what the mountain done
My jacket ripped, my buttons gone
There at a window I came upon
A woman with a loom she worked on
With a needle and thread she said, "Give me your coat for a while"
I told her how I thought that I'd travel lonely
She smiled and said, "You'll never meet a stranger on the road to Montappone"

With no maps or guidelines
I lost my way a couple of times
Once I missed a free ride
Mostly luck was on my side
On the road I came upon
A man with some ragged clothes on
I gave him my coat and said, "Walk with me for a while"
He said how he feared that he would travel lonely
I smiled and said, "You'll never meet a stranger on the road to Montappone"
